Frequently Asked Questions About 3D – 4D Ultrasound Sonograms

What is an ultrasound and or sonogram?

Ultrasound is a non-invasive procedure involving the use of sound waves to see internal images within the human body. The technical term for an ultrasound image is sonogram and the words are used interchangeably. One of the most popular uses for ultrasound is at pregnancy to ‘see’ an unborn child to determine gender, establish the general health of the baby and or screen for possible complications. In traditional ultrasound, often referred to as 2D ultrasound, black and white images of a developing baby fetus are produced from bouncing sound waves within the womb.

What is the difference between 3D and 4D ultrasound?

3D ultrasound is special software that generates realistic 3D sonogram photos of a developing baby from multiple sound waves taken at different angles. 4D ultrasound uses advanced scanners that go beyond 3D sonogram photography by not only generating photos of a developing baby, but observe real time movement and record it onto video.

I want to know if I am having a baby boy or baby girl. How soon can I come for an ultrasound?

It is recommended that a prenatal gender determination occurs around 14 weeks to find out if it’s a baby boy or a baby girl.

When is the best time for a 4D Ultrasound session?

Hi Mom 4D Studio recommends coming in between week 24 and week 40 for your 4D ultrasound session. Performing ultrasound before week 24 won’t let you appreciate the facial features of your baby. Often times, mothers want more than one 4D ultrasound to have images from the second and third trimester to enjoy.

How long is a 4D ultrasound session?

We offer a variety of session packages to choose from ranging from 10 to 30 minutes. Plan on spending an extra 30 minutes to an hour so that we can send you home with everything you want that day.

Do I need to make an appointment for an ultrasound sonogram?

Yes. All ultrasound sonogram sessions are scheduled by appointment only.

What can I do to get the best 4D ultrasound images?

Be well hydrated during your pregnancy. Drink plenty of water at least 72 hours before your appoinment to help produce the best images of your baby..

Can you capture twins using 4D ultrasound?

Yes, taking 3D sonogram photos of twin babies at Hi Mom 4D Studio is possible. It takes a little more time and effort that we gladly provide at an extra cost. With our 4D ultrasound scanners, you will be able to see them both move.

Who can join me during an ultrasound sonogram session?

You can invite up to 15 people with you. Hi Mom 4D Studio offers a roomy comfortable home-like setting where we can easily accommodate them.

My husband is in the military and is deployed overseas. When can I send our baby’s 4D ultrasound web page to him?

The ultrasound of your baby will be available for you to share with your family and friends within an hour after your visit.

Do baby ultrasound sonogram images look real?

Hi Mom 4D Studio gets the best images possible from your baby depending on the position of your unborn child at the time of the session. If a second appointment is needed, we will schedule a second ultrasound session free. Remember that picture images and video of your baby are used for entertainment purposes only and not for medical use.

If I can’t see my baby’s face during the 4D ultrasound session, would I have to pay extra for another sonogram?

There is no additional fee for the ultrasound session. If you are not able to see any image of the baby’s face after 10 minutes, you will be invited back for one free additional visit.

Are ultrasound sonograms safe for my baby?

Numerous medical studies dating back over 30 years indicate no harmful evidence that ultrasound imaging during pregnancy is dangerous to either mother and or baby. In fact, medical ultrasound is used for possible abnormalities of a developing fetus.
The FDA which established and regulates pregnancy ultrasound devices ensure low level waves of sound are generated for sonogram photography and video.

  • Take a Prenatal Vitamin !!! Even when you're still trying to conceive, it's smart to start taking prenatal vitamins. Your baby's neural cord, which becomes the brain and spinal cord, develops within the first month of pregnancy, so it's important you get essential nutrients, like folic acid, calcium, and iron, from the very start. Prenatal vitamins are available over the counter at most drug stores, or you can get them by prescription from your doctor. If taking them makes you feel queasy, try taking them at night or with a light snack. Chewing gum or sucking on hard candy afterward can help, too. #HiMom
